Rain lashes Kashmir Valley; showers to continue till June 28
Heavy rain Wednesday lashed wide parts of Kashmir Valley, including summer capital of Srinagar, badly affecting traffic and business activities here.
The weather office has warned of isolated heavy rains and thundershowers in the Valley during the next 36 hours, causing concern among the residents who are still trying to cope with the devastation caused by floods last year.
The rain lowered the temperature, forcing people to bring out their warm clothes and left many roads in the city and elsewhere inundated, causing hardship to pedestrians and slowing down traffic movement.
A MeT department spokesperson said fairly widespread rain is predicted till tomorrow, followed by isolated rainfall in till June 28.
Officials of Irrigation and Flood Control Department said they are monitoring the water level in Jhelum and other rivers, rivulets, and streams.
“There is no change in the water level in river Jhelum and other water bodies. Water discharge is still low and is expected to rise in case the downpour continues,” the officials said.
