Despite overnight rain, weather remains humid in Kashmir

Despite overnight rain, inundating a number of areas and markets, weather remained humid in the Kashmir valley, where dry weather is predicted during the next 48 hours followed by isolated rain for subsequent two days.

Despite overnight rain, weather remains humid in KashmirInterestingly the summer capital, Srinagar, recorded highest 38.8 mm rainfall during the night till this morning, a Met department spokesman said here this afternoon. A number of low-lying areas in the city were inundated due to water-logging because of faulty drainage system. Several markets, including Magarmal Bagh to Dastigir Sahib Shrine at Sarai Bala, near Police Control Room (PCR). Exchange Road lane, Samandar Bagh, Srinagar-Charar-e-Sharief near Pamposh colony and Budshah Nagar Natipora.

He said the minimum temperature was dropped by a notch in the city, where 38.8 mm rainfall was recorded overnight and it was 18.3 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s 19.6 degrees recorded.

However, despite overnight rain, weather remained humid and sky was cloudy though sun was playing hide and seek today.

The spokesman said the sky could be partly and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 29 degrees and 18 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours. Pahalgam, where devotees are arriving from different parts of the country for undertaking the pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine, recorded 6.4 mm rainfall till 0830 hrs. However, the minimum temperature was 16 degrees, three notches above normal resulting in melting of snow on upper reaches. Gulmarg, a major attraction of tourists, Amarnath yatris and locals received slight rain. However, the minimum temperature remained a notch above normal, he said.

Qazigund and Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded two and one degree above normal respectively while at Kupwara it was 19.3 degrees, again more than two notches above normal despite 10.4 mm rainfall during the night. Leh also witnessed 12.4 mm rainfall overnight resulting in drop in the minimum temperature. Against yesterday’s 14.2 degrees it was 12.3 degrees minimum temperature. At Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh national highway, where Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated on July 25 and 26.

The spokesman said the sky could be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 29 degrees and 16 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours at Leh.

He said there could be moderate rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 30 degree and 23 degree respectively at Jammu, the winter capital, where 36 rainfall was received during the past 24 hours. The maximum temperature at Jammu was a notch below normal while the night temperature was normal, he said.
