Clashes in old city after Friday prayers

Clashes in old city after Friday prayersClashes erupted in old city after Friday prayers as youths threw stones at security personnel and displayed Islamic State (IS) and Pakistani flags, the police said.
The clashes erupted after a group of masked youth came out of the Jamia mosque and waved Pakistani, IS and Afzal Guru banners and tried to take a march. However, the police did not allow the protesters to proceed ahead.
Eyewitnesses said protesters threw stones at the police. The police fired tear smoke shells to quell the mob. The clashes spread to Gojwara and Rajouri Kadal areas, which disrupted the traffic movement in the area.
A police spokesman said there was no report of any one getting injured during the clashes today. “ Baring a minor clash, the situation remained normal in the city,” a police officer said
Earlier while addressing Friday congregation at the Jamia Masjid, All-Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) chairman Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq said the “trend of educated Kashmiri youth taking up arms, was a reaction to the oppressive policies adopted by Indian authorities in Kashmir and the continuous human rights violations at the hands of Indian forces”.
“ These oppressive tactics had, in past, also pushed the educated youth towards gun culminating in the armed resistance movement of 1990s,” he said.
