Geelani, Mirwaiz barred from reaching Jamia MasjidPolice on Friday once again detained the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani outside his Hyderpora residence when he defied the curfew and tried marching towards Jamia Masjid in old city, reports said.
As soon as Geelani stepped out of his Hyderpora residence a huge contingent of Police told him he cannot move out and arrested him.

Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday was arrested and shifted to police station Nigeen.

“Mirwaiz was arrested as soon he stepped out for Jamia Masjid,” media advisor to Mirwaiz Adv Shahid ul Islam told Kashmir Post.

He added that it was for third consecutive Friday when Congregational prayers were not allowed in Jamia Masjid Srinagar. “It happened only during Sikh rule that people were barred to offer Friday prayers at Jamia Srinagar on third straight Friday,” he said.

Pertinently, the joint resistance leadership had asked people to march towards Jamia Masjid in old city today. During this week Geelani has been detained thrice. Prior to this he was arrested on Monday and Wednesday when he tried moving towards Anantnag (Islamabad) and Kulgam respectively.
