Mehbooba asks; where children of pro-freedom and pro-India leaders are currently

Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has said that “those  people whose children were studying abroad were instigating other children to violence” and “many forces have joined hands to vitiate atmosphere in the valley.”
She has not named anyone. In the only elaborate statement on the protests, she again referred to unnamed people who “go from place to place”, incite young “boys to attack security installations and escape” while leaving the boys to face bullets and pellets.
Since protests occur at several places (a few days ago a police statement said 70 clashes had occurred across the valley on that day), it is difficult to ascertain whether these “roaming instigators” are married or whether their children are studying abroad or not.
But many believe Mehbooba targets the pro-freedom leaders, about whom the pro-India camp and security establishment regularly says that they ask people to revolt while sending their own children abroad for studies.
Although it is difficult to establish a connection between a person’s politics and where his children are being educated, Kashmir Post looks at where the children of some prominent pro-freedom and pro-India leaders are currently.

Mehbooba Mufti
She has two daughters—Iltija Javed, who has studied at the University of Warwick and has returned and Irtika Javid, who has studied filmmaking at New York, where she lives currently.  Her brother, Mufti Tasaduq, a noted cinematographer, has spent most of his life outside the state since 1989. Mehbooba’s two sisters — Dr Mehmooda and Dr Rubaya Sayed who was kidnapped by militants in 1990s—are settled in the US and Chennai. The chief minister herself worked for some time in India.

Omar Abdullah
His two sons Zameer Abdullah and Zaheer Abdullah are studying and living in Delhi. He himself has studied and lived in India for most part of pre-politics life.

Naeem Akhtar
His only son Aleem Akhtar is based in London where he according to his Facebook profile works with Standard and Poor’s financial services.  His daughter, Shelly, works with a law firm in Mumbai.

Haseeb Drabu
His son Mavahib Nazki Drabu, according to his Facebook profile, was last year studying at UWC Atlantic College. Currently, he is in London.

Syed Ali Geelani
His both sons are in Kashmir. He was not allowed to meet his daughter based in Saudi Arabia when she was taken seriously ill.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq
His family is also based in Kashmir.

Mohammad Yasin Malik
His wife and daughter are stuck in Pakistan. They are not being allowed to return to the valley for the past couple of years.

Shabir Ahmad Shah
His two daughters are studying in a school in Srinagar.

Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor
Her son and daughter are in London.

Asiya Andrabi
Her son is based in Malaysia and her husband is serving a life sentence at Srinagar Central Jail.
