India, Pakistan trade fire along LoC, 5 civilians killed scores injured

Five civilians were killed as the armies of India and Pakistan traded heavy fire along the Line of Control in Poonch sector, reports said.
An official said that Mohammad Showkat and his wife Shafiya were killed after a shell fired from across the border hit their house in Khari Karmama sector in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Their three children were injured in the attack, he said, adding that they were shifted to District Hospsital Poonch for treatment.
Three civilians were killed and six others injured due to “unprovoked firing” by Indian forces in Chirikot and Satwal sectors of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Dawn News quoted a spokesman of Army’s Inter-Services Public Relations as saying.
Both the sides have accused each other of resorted to “unprovoked firing”.

“The firing which started from 6.30 a.m., is ongoing and our forces are effectively retaliating,” said Indian Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta.
“There has been heavy firing and shelling by Indian troops in different parts of Abbaspur and Hajira sectors since 5:30am in the morning,” said Raja Tahir Mumtaz, the deputy commissioner of district Poonch where these two sectors fall in.
