Vehicle number across Kashmir Division goes up by 26% in past 15 years

The number of vehicle in Kashmir division has increased during last 15 years by 26 per cent.
According to the official data there is an increase of 26.25 percent in vehicle registrations from 2004 to 2017 in Kashmir.

From the year 1971 to 31 March 2004 there were 154227 vehicles registered in regional transport office (RTO), Kashmir and the registrations have increased to 587697 vehicles as of 2016-2017.

In the year 2004-05 vehicles registered were 16953, followed by slight decrease in 2005-06 with 16395 registrations. In 2006-07 and 2007-08 there was an increase in the vehicle registrations with 19373 and 21409 respectively.
However, in 2008-09 the number decreased to 20558 registrations compared to year 2007-08.
The increasing trend picked up again in 2009-10 with 24608 registered vehicles, which had increasing drift to 31670 and 45509 during 2010-11 and 2011-12 respectively.
In 2012-13 it again had slight dip to 43826 registrations compared to previous years. Though registrations increased again to 47693 in 2013-2014, however, again decreased to 43385 registrations in 2014-15.
In 2015-16, the number of registered vehicles was 51332 which again dropped to 50709 vehicle registrations in 2016-17.
Total number of vehicles registered so far with RTO Kashmir from 1971 to 2016-17 is 587697. Out of total number of vehicle registration, commercial vehicles are 130786 which includes 31243 taxi/ts/mv followed by 25249 trucks/tippers.
Data reveals that 456911 non-commercial have been registered till 2016-17. It includes 238485 two-wheelers, followed by 202931 car.
