The Kashmir Files tried to sow poison against Kashmiris: Omar Abdullah

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and vice president of National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah slammed the movie The Kashmir Files, stating that the film shows Kashmiris in a very poor light. Omar Abdullah added “no one is more peace-loving than Kashmiris”.

Talking about The Kashmir Files, Omar Abdullah said, “The movie humiliated local Kashmiris a lot… They tried to humiliate Kashmiris in the whole world by making films. They tried to sow poison against Kashmiris.. They won’t stop at anything.”

“They tried to espouse the message that every Kashmiri is a gun lover and communal. But, we are the ones who carry them on our shoulders during the Amarnath pilgrimage. No one is more peace-loving than us,” he said.

The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, was again in the limelight after an Israeli filmmaker, Nadav Lapid, called it “vulgar” and “propaganda driven”. The movie drew the wrath of several members of the Indian film fraternity, including the cast of the film Anupam Kher and Pallavi Joshi.

Vivek Agnihotri said he would come out with “The Kashmir Files: Unreported” but did not reveal details of whether it would be a film or a docu-series.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti backed Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid’s comments on The Kashmir Files. Taking to her Twitter account, she had said, “Finally, someone called out a movie that was nothing but sheer propaganda promoted by the ruling party to demonise Muslims, especially Kashmiris, and widen the gulf between Pandits and Muslims. Sad that diplomatic channels are now being used to silence the truth.”
