Rewards for Efficiency: KPDCL Exempts 22 Stations from Power Cuts
In a groundbreaking move, the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has introduced a novel approach to reward areas that have successfully reduced power losses by providing them with uninterrupted electricity.
Speaking to Kashmir InFocus, Chief Engineer of KPDCL, Javid Yusuf Dar, revealed that 22 feeders have been selected in the initial phase, where Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses have significantly decreased due to the implementation of smart metering technology.
Dar emphasised the corporation’s dedication to its promise that areas exhibiting minimal pilferage and reduced AT&C losses would receive continuous power supply.
He stated, “KPDCL is committed to providing round-the-clock electricity to areas that demonstrate efficiency in power consumption and loss reduction.”
Dar also hinted at the expansion of this initiative, noting that more areas with completed smart metering installations would soon join the list of beneficiaries.
A circular issued by Chief Engineer Javid Yusuf Dar outlined the specifics of the incentive programme. The circular explicitly stated, “To incentivize consumers with smart metering and feeders with low AT&C losses, there shall be no curtailment affected on 11KV outgoing feeders.”
This policy aims to encourage the widespread adoption of smart metering technology and promote efficient power distribution practices across the region.
The 22 selected 11KV feeders include various locations such as Receiving sub station Nusoo feeder name F1: Papchan, Nusoo F2: Nishat, Achabal F1: Achabal, Anchidoora F1: Cheepanthidpro, Anchidoora F3: Prakhaspora, Malknag F1: Malknag, Sarnal F3: Iqbalbad, Verinag F1: Verinag, Sangam F5: Colony (New Feeder), Chrarie Sharief F3: Alamdar Colony, Wanbal F3: Wanbal, Bemina F2: Hamdaniya Colony, Rajbagh F3: Rajbagh Zero bridge, Danderkhah F3: Gulberg Colony, Soura F6: 90 feet Soura, Sonawar F1: Indira Nagar, Habak F4: Zakura Crossing, Lal Bazar F1: Jan Mohalla Main Lal Bazar, Botshah Mohalla, Shalimar F4: Deewan Colony Shalimar, Gulab Bagh F2: Gulab Bagh, New Ellahi Bagh F1: Ellahi Bagh, Saloora F3: Saloora.
According to officials, KPDCL’s initiative follows an escalated crackdown on consumers indulging in power theft in the Valley.
Kashmir grappled with a severe power crisis, partially alleviated by securing additional power from external generators. This strategic move not only addresses the immediate power shortages but also aims to boost the adoption of smart metering.
Experts anticipate that the KPDCL’s commitment to completing the smart metering infrastructure within the next two years will foster a more robust and efficient power distribution system in Kashmir, further reinforcing the region’s resilience against power-related challenges.
