Kejriwal’s Unusual Appeal to Women Voters: ‘No Dinner if Husbands Chant Modi’s Name’

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday urged women voters to cast their vote in large numbers for Aam Aadmi Party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking at a townhall event — Mahila Samman Samaroh — the Aam Aadmi Party chief told the women that if their husbands “chant” Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name, then they should not serve dinner to them.

“Many men are chanting PM Modi’s name, but you have to set it right. If your husband chants Modi’s name, tell him you won’t serve him dinner,” Kejriwal said at the event.

The event was organised to interact with women who would benefit from the Delhi government’s recently announced ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’. The scheme — on a monthly basis — provides Rs 1,000 to all the women above 18 years of age.
Kejriwal said that this yojana would make the women ‘financially independent’ and said that it would make them ’empowered in the truest sense’.

Taking a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Delhi CM said, “They (BJP) say this scheme will spoil women. They say Kejriwal is wasting money by giving Rs 1,000 to every women in the city. I ask them when you waived off big loans of lot of people, weren’t they spoilt?”

Circling back to his point of urging the women to vote, Kejriwal said, “It is your responsibility to now convince your husbands, brothers, fathers and other people in the locality to vote for the person who is working for their benefit.”

He asked them to tell other women also that only their “brother Kejriwal will stand by” them.

“Tell them that I have made their electricity free, their bus tickets free and now I’m giving these Rs 1,000 to women every month. What has the BJP done for them? Why vote for BJP then? Vote for Kejriwal this time,” the AAP supremo pitched his party to the women, India Today reported.

He said that till now, only ‘fraud’ was being committed in the name of empowering women.

Kejriwal said that the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana would be the “biggest empowerment program” in the entire world.
