Mirwaiz to Iran envoy: Use your good offices for K-resolution

Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday urged Iran’s Ambassador to India, GhulamRaza Ansari, to use his good offices to build pressure on India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue for durable peace in South Asia. He also said the proposed Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline should be used beyond economical aspect to ensure peaceful settlement of issues related to Muslims across the globe.
Speaking at a seminar organized by Anjuman-e-Shar-e-Shian on the eve of 25th death anniversary of Imam Khomeni, Mirwaiz, while referring to Raza, said Muslims are glad that Iran has developed a lot amid Islamic revolution. “Muslims were feeling suppressed and we are happy that Iran has come a long way in every sphere. Since Iran is a globally-recognized power today, I expect you (Ansari) to use your good offices to build pressure on India and Pakistan to resolve Kashmir,” Mirwaiz said.
He said had Imam AyatullahKhomeni lived for a few more years, he would have “definitely taken some measures to ensure Kashmir issue is resolved.”
Mirwaiz said the proposed gas pipe-line should be a bridge of friendship and a way to resolve issues like Kashmir, Bosnia, Palestine and Syria. “Iran’s contribution towards resolution of these issues is vital,” Mirwaiz said.
Highlighting the role of Imam Khomeni, Mirwaiz said the slain leader always advocated unity and integrity of Muslim Ummah.
Iran’s Ambassador said ImanKhomeni remained steadfast on Islam. “He was God-fearing and committed to follow his religion which made him a great leader of Iran,” he said. “It is because of the great contribution of Imam Khomeni that western countries see Iran a biggest threat today.”
Ansari said the basic aim of laying the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline was not economic but to bring the three countries closer.
Mirwaiz later gifted a replica of Jamia Masjid to Iran’s Ambassador.
Meanwhile, GhulamRaza Ansari this afternoon called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here. “The two leaders discussed various matters of the mutual interests,” an official spokesman said.
