Pellet horror continues, two youth injured in Nowhatta

Two youth were grievously injured as government forces fired pellets on protesters in Nowhatta area of Downtown Srinagar on Friday. Both the injured were shifted to general specialty SMHS hospital for specialised treatment.
A class 10th student Mudasir Farooq son of Farooq Ahmed Baig of NowshehraSoura here was hit by pellets all over his body, including legs, face and mouth. A doctor treating him said: “He has pellets abutted in his chest wall. Some pellets have perforated his liver.”

Another youth Salman Ahmad, 20, was brought to the SMHS hospital on Friday evening with perforation in his left eye caused by the pellets. He also had pellet injuries on his face.
“He has one perforation in his eye,” an ophthalmologist treating him said. People accompanying Salman said that he was injured at Batamaloo and is a resident of Aloochi Bagh.
A senior doctor said that Mudasir is under observation but his condition is stable.

“Pellet injuries can prove fatal and we have seen that in the past. We are monitoring his condition,” he said.
Muhammad Kaleem, a relative of Mudasir, said that he was going for tuitions when he was caught in midst of a protest. “People who rushed him to the hospital said that he fell down right at the spot and blood started to ooze from his mouth,” Kaleem said.
Late Friday evening, a teenage boy Sajjad Hussain, 18, was brought to SMHS hospital with alleged shell injury on his head. “He is being evaluated,” a doctor said.
In-charge medical superintendent SMHS hospital, Dr Saleem Tak, said the hospital received three injured people till 7.30 pm.
“We received two people injured by pellets and one with a shell injury on head. All of them are stable,” he said.

Earlier, a witness said that soon after Friday congregational prayers culminated at Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta, a large number of youth took out a massive pro-freedom procession. “The protesters tried to march towards Nowhatta chowk, but were pushed back the police and paramilitary forces personnel,” he said. The witness said that the protestors resorted to massive sloganeering and pelted the forces with stones, leading to massive clashes. “The forces fired dozens of teargas shells and pellets to disperse the protesters,” he said.
