Jammu University not to revoke students suspension, Stalemate Persists

Stalemate continued to persist on the Jammu University campus on Tuesday after the administration decided not to revoke the suspension of five students following the “adamant behaviour” of protesters, who announced to carry on their stir till the removal of Dean Students Welfare (DSW).
Most of classes on the campus went off peacefully. However, a section of students held a demonstration outside the Vice Chancellor secretariat. They demanded a “written order” on the revocation of the suspension of students and the removal of DSW.
However, the university has decided to constitute a high-level committee to negotiate with the “nominated representatives” of the protesting students to find an amicable solution to the situation.
JU VC Prof RD Sharma said: The students were planning to “gherao” the selection panel, who had come to conduct interviews for the four posts on the campus. “We did not allow them to succeed in their plans and the interviews were conducted peacefully,” he said.
“The protesters are forcing other students to boycott their classes for their petty interests, which is not acceptable to anyone. Let them nominate their representatives for talks with the panel,” he added.
