Shah chairs meeting on J&K situation; NSA, RAW, IB, CRPF & J&K DGP main attendants

A high-level meeting convened by Union Home minister Amit Shah to discuss the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir was held on Friday.

Besides Shah, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Intelligence Bureau Director Arvind Kumar, Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) chief Samant Kumar Goel, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Kuldiep Singh and J&K DGP Dilbagh Singh attended the meeting.

The high-level meet was held after Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha met Shah today at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Shah and Sinha discussed developmental issues and the current situation of the Union Territory.

The home minister said all round development and welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is the top priority of the Modi government. Shah appreciated the 90 per cent reach of the central government’s schemes in J&K.

“Shah asked for the completion of many other development schemes including the Prime Minister’s Development Package, industrial development projects at a fast pace. He also directed starting the 3000 MW Pakal Dul and Keeru hydroelectric projects and fast tracking other 3300 MW projects,” the ministry of home affairs said in its statement.

The government on Thursday categorically stated that no amount of questioning can change the reality that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. The ministry of external affairs issued the statement after Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi wrote a letter to the UNSC President and the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres alleging that India is planning to change the demographic structure of the region.

“The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. No amount of questioning can change the reality. Also cross border terrorism is unacceptable and no amount of justification can make it acceptable,” MEA Arindam Bagchi said at a media briefing.
