Dozens of government employees detained for protesting
Dozens of government employees were detained as they tried to stage a protest march here against abolition of municipal committees at the famous resorts of Pahalgam and Gulmarg in the state.
The employees, led by Employees Joint Action Committee president, Abdul Qayoom Wani, assembled at Press Colony here to protest against the “unilateral and arbitrary decision of the government” to abolish the municipal committees, officials said.
As the protesting employees tried to march towards the commercial hub of Lal Chowk, police swung into action and detained dozens of them including Wani, they said.
Wani asked the government to revoke the decision failing which the employees would launch strong agitation.
