On CM’s directive, authorities wake up to traffic messActing on the directives of Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, authorities on Tuesday launched a drive to streamline traffic system in Srinagar.
Chief Minister on Monday directed the authorities to ensure better traffic management in Srinagar by strictly implementing traffic rules. The Traffic department today disallowed parking on roadsides at various intersections, imposed fine of traffic offenders while allied department removed street vendors at busy roads.
“We have launched a drive to ensure smooth flow of vehicular movement in city. We challaned and seized many vehicles including Sumos and passenger vehicles for violating traffic,” said SSP Traffic Haseeb-ur-Rehman.
“We will be tough on traffic rule violators particularly those involved in visible offences like using mobile phone while driving, not wearing helmets and seat belts, triple riding, jumping red signal and over loading in passenger vehicles,” the SSP said.
“The parents should keep a close watch on their children as they may be resorting to stunt biking. Traffic police will seize all such bikes which have been modified for stunts,” the SSP added.
