Resistance Group exempted lawyers from shutdown

Resistance leaders in the Kashmir valley today exempted lawyers from the two-day shutdown later this week.
Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik, the three separatist leaders who have been issuing weekly protest and shutdown calendars for the past several months, in a joint statement exempted the lawyers from the shutdown scheduled on Friday and Saturday.
The separatist trio said there were “thousands of habeas corpus cases pending for hearing”.
“In view of the winter vacation of the courts, lawyers are requested to help out the cases of these detainees,” the separatists said in their joint statement.
The separatist leaders earlier this month had announced the most significant spell of relaxation by calling for work on 10 out of 15 days till the end of this month.
The Kashmir valley has remained shut for one of the longest spell in recent decades following the gunning down of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8 which had sparked an unprecedented unrest.
