Youth Congress gheraoes Deputy CM’s house over holiday row

Youth Congress activists, led by state president Pranav Shagotra, today gheraoed the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh over the state’s failure to declare the birth anniversary of last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh a holiday.
They were protesting against the BJP leadership, which, they said, failed to convince its ally PDP to declare a public holiday on September 23. They also blocked vehicular movement on the Talab Tillo road.
Shagotra said Jammu Deputy Chief Minister had betrayed the people of Jammu, who had voted for the BJP hoping that the party would fulfil their expectations.
The Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) also questioned the move. DSS chief Gulchain Singh Charak said, “The BJP leadership should read the writing on the walls as people are angry over the denial of holiday. The government should have declared a holiday on September 23.” Charak questioned sincerity of BJP legislators and said “people would not forgive those who are playing with their sentiments.”

Congmen show black flags to Dy CM, held

Youth Congress activists on Thursday blocked the Jammu-Pathankot highway over the arrest of two leaders for showing black flags to Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh. The blockade was lifted after senior police officers assured to look into the matter. Sources said two leaders of the Youth Congress — Romi Sharma, president, Hiranagar Assembly; and Balbir Singh, vice-president, Billawar Assembly — were taken into custody by the police.
