I introduced Hurriyat among people but lately it disappointed me: Javaid Mir

  • ‘Kashmir struggle not anybody’s fiefdom’
  • This is not the way to quit: Hurriyat (M)

Senior separatist leader and chairman of his faction of JKLF, Javaid Ahmad Mir Wednesday said there was no question of joining mainstream politics and he has already submitted his resignation to Hurriyat leadership in Pakistan administered Kashmir.
Mir told Kashmir Post that he has submitted his resignation before the people who actually run Hurriyat. “I have submitted my resignation through my representative before the people who actually run Hurriyat Conference in PaK,” he said.
Asked the reasons of quitting Hurriyat (M), Mir said, it is a long story.
“There were already differences. It is a long story…in short I would like to thank Hurriyat leaders and Hurriyat chairman…but they lately disappointed me,” Mir said.
Earlier in the day, Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman in a statement expressed surprise over Mir’s quitting Hurriyat Conference forum. “Mir neither informed the forum nor the chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq about his decision or the reasons behind it, but straightaway went to the media where he ambiguously mentioned about some, so called ‘ideological differences’ without elaborating what that meant,” reads the statement.
It further said that Mir is free to do as he wills but the manner in which he has done it goes against the basis of organizational ethics and is in bad taste.
Mir, however, said some “agency sponsored media organizations” are spreading rumors about him. “I am not joining mainstream politics. I am not a politician. We (HAJY) group) are founders of freedom struggle. I introduced gun here. We are people from the battle field. I am a freedom fighter. I have promised before my people, before my martyrs that I will fight like Ashfaq Majeed till my last drop of blood,” Mir added.
Terming the ongoing “movement” not anyone’s fiefdom, Mir said it is not a movement of personalities, “it is a movement of freedom fighters”.
“I don’t need certificate from anybody. I have invested 39 years in movement. My father was also martyred. I will continue my struggle single handedly, the way I did it earlier also,” Mir said.
The former militant commander said, he introduced Hurriyat among people at a time when 39 top militant commanders opposed its formation.
“I was the only chief commander at that time who joined Hurriyat. I had felt that it was need of the time and Hurriyat would prove as a political platform for Kashmir struggle. But lately, the Hurriyat as an amalgam disappointed me,” Mir said.
Asked about his future plans, Mir said he won’t join any Hurriyat faction, but would “single handedly” run his movement.
“I led JKLF single handedly for decades together. I visited every nook and corner. I have taken out 566 protests and campaigns. I have 300 to 400 cases in different police stations,” he said.
Mir said after his eye surgery last year, his health condition has affected his overall political activities, but his “spirit for the freedom is as alive as it was 30 years ago”. “I will continue to fight as I have promised it at the grave of great martyrs,” he said, adding, he would not hesitate to join programs of Hurriyat and Joint Resistance Leadership if they invite him.
