Mirwaiz Expresses Profound Concern Over Ongoing Situation in Palestine

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday expressed his deep concern over the ongoing situation in Palestine, emphasising the need for global solidarity and a just resolution to the longstanding conflict.

Israeli forces have killed more than 1,900 people in Gaza as it continues strikes. Distressing videos have surfaced on various social media platforms, depicting the heartbreaking scenes of Palestinian civilians, predominantly children, being hurriedly evacuated to overcrowded hospitals.

In a statement, Mirwaiz conveyed his anguish at the persistent suffering and hardships faced by the people of Palestine. He highlighted the grave impact of the ongoing situation on the lives of innocent civilians, urging for immediate international attention and action.

“Deeply hurt by the ongoing situation in Palestine. Our hearts goes out to the people enduring these hardships. The pain & suffering they endure are a stark reminder of the need for global solidarity & a just resolution to this longstanding conflict,” Mirwaiz tweeted.

His statement comes amidst the recent surge in violence and unrest in the region, as tensions continue to escalate between Israeli forces and Palestinian residents. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s appeal for global solidarity echoes the sentiments shared by numerous international leaders and humanitarian organizations, all advocating for a peaceful and equitable solution to the persistent crisis.

While the situation in Palestine remains a complex and sensitive issue, Mirwaiz’s call for unity and support serves as a reminder of the crucial role that international cooperation plays in promoting peace and stability in conflict-ridden regions.

On Friday, Mirwaiz, who was recently released from a four-year house arrest, was put on house arrest again as authorities restricted him from leaving his residence on Friday.

Authorities also prevented prayers at Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid on the same day. However, there was no official comment provided regarding the closure by authorities. Earlier, Mirwaiz had prayed for the safety of Palestinians who are under Israeli bombardment that killed over 1,500 till today.

The governing body of the mosque, Anjuman Auqaf, expressed “deep regret” over the actions of the administration.

They condemned the decision to keep Mirwaiz under house arrest once again, stating that the authorities closed all doors of the central mosque and informed the Auqaf administration that prayers would not be allowed on Friday.

Mirwaiz, upon his release from house arrest on September 22, led prayers at Jamia Masjid on the same day. Earlier, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, led by Mirwaiz, had expressed “anguish and grief” over the recent escalation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Mirwaiz emphasized the plight of Palestinians, citing killings, destruction of homes, constant surveillance, and the dwindling of livelihoods.

Following Friday prayers, anti-Israel protests erupted in the Badgam district adjacent to Srinagar, leading to the deployment of police forces around major mosques in Srinagar. Kargil district in the UT of Ladakh also saw anti-Israel protests post-Friday prayers.
