SMC phenyl feeds VIPs as City stinks

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation(SMC) claims of having used 44,000 liters of disinfectants in different flood affected areas till September  28 has little takers, except for some VIPs whose villas and neighborhood were disinfected.
As the City continues to stink and flood victims finding it hard to live, the SMC has claimed that 44,000 liters of phenyl have been used. But where has the lot been used? Except for the pictures highlighting the washing of Civil Secretariat road, the flood hit people said no disinfectants were used.
“We have been living in terrible stench as not even a bottle of phenyl was used in our locality,” said a Batamaloo. The residents of adjoining Bemina, Karan Nagar and Nursing Garh have been making similar complaints.
Eyebrows are already being raised over the working of civic body, where the some officials who allegedly don’t have a good track record have been assigned the charge of distribution of money and resources in the flood hit City. “These Babus including engineers have been minting money like anything over the days and an impartial probe will expose the wrongdoings,” said an insider.
He said the phenyl and other disinfectants were being used but only in areas where VIPs live. “And this operation is carried out in the evenings so that people from other areas don’t raise a hue and cry,” he said. Just last evening the civic body sleuths undertook spraying of phenyl near the residence of a female Neta from the ruling coalition.
Despite repeated attempts, SMC Commissioner could not be contacted for comments.
