Woman dies of H1N1 influenza at SKIMS

A woman died of H1N1 influenza at SKIMS here on Tuesday. According to hospital officials, the woman was suffering from chronic kidney disease in addition to H1N1 infection.
“The 55-year old woman from Nowhatta Srinagar was admitted to the hospital on March 4. She was on ventilator and was very sick all the while,” Dr. Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS, said.
Meanwhile, the number of patients visiting OPDs designated for detection and treatment of H1N1 influenza in different hospitals has been on a constant decline.
“The number has come down significantly,” Dr. Jan said.
According to PRO SKIMS, 53 patients were seen in the hospital’s Pulmonary Diseases OPD on Tuesday. The total number of samples testing positive for H1N1 influenza was 394 till Tuesday afternoon.
“The surveillance is going on, but all over India the rise in temperature has brought the virus activity down,” an influenza expert informed.
