Clashes erupt in Nowhatta after police remove Pakistan flags

Violent clashes erupted in Nowhatta in Old City between youth and protesters after police removed Pakistan flags twice hoisted in the area, official sources said on Wednesday.

Clashes erupt in Nowhatta after police remove Pakistan flagsThey told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that unknown persons had hoisted a Pakistan flag atop on the newly constructed bathrooms in the compound of Jamia Masjid in the Nowhatta.

“However, police officials spotted it at around 2:30 am and removed it,” they said, adding that the police action angered youths and they pelted stones on them.

As the situation returned normal after an hour, another Pakistan flag was hoisted at the same place by unidentified youth. The police officials, once again, removed the flag at around 5:30 pm, sources said.

The youths again took to streets and pelted stones on the police ensuing clashes which continued till late evening, they added. (GNS)
