Clashes in South Kashmir leave dozens injured

Dozens of people have been injured in clashes with police and paramilitary forces in southern district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Clashes in South Kashmir leave dozens injuredClashes broke out earlier today after paramilitary CRPF men allegedly thrashed pedestrians and motorists in Anantnag district.

Later on, clashes spread to the entire district with angry youths pelting stones at police and CRPF.

The forces responded with tear gas shelling and cane charge to disperse the protesters.

However, the protesters didn’t relent and kept on regrouping.

Several youths were also detained to contain the protests which were going on at the time of filing of this report.

The area is witnessing a complete shutdown today against the killing of Zahid Rashool Bhat in a petrol bomb attack by a mob in Udhampur district of Jammu region.

Bhat was laid to rest at his native Batengoo village yesterday.

To contain the protests, authorities imposed curfew-like restrictions in the entire district, especially the Old Town area.
