Protest in Betingo against Farooq Abdullah’s visitAt least four female protesters and a lady constable was injured when the protests erupt against the emergence of National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah in Betingo hamlet of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that Farooq Abdullah arrived in Betingo to express sympathy with the bereaved family of Zahid Rasool Bhat who lost his life after Hindu mobs attacked a Kashmiri truck on 9 October this month at Shivnagar Udhampur.

“As Farooq Abdullah emerged in the hamlet scores of females took to streets and staged a protest against his arrival saying that political leaders visit for their petty gains. The female protesters amid pro-freedom slogans staged a massive protest prompting women police to charge them with canes. During the clashes at least four female protesters and a woman constable was injured. One of the injured protester identified as Zahida Jan was shifted to local hospital for treatment,” eyewitnesses said.

Talking to CNS that father of the slain youth Zahid Rasool Bhat told CNS that National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah spend some five minutes with them and expressed sympathy with them. (CNS)
