Zojila Pass reopens for traffic; 800 stranded vehicles move towards SonamargAfter four days of closure, Srinagar-Leh Highway today reopened for vehicular traffic.
The road was closed on 5th November after heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass.
Hundreds of vehicles and passengers were stranded on both sides of the pass.
In Drass many non-Ladakhi drivers were anxiously waiting for the opening of the road.
District Police Kargil today informed that more than 800 vehicles were allowed to move from Drass to Sonamarg on Sunday amid severe cold.
Police Officials in Kargil said, “Today we have allowed one-way traffic from Kargil to Srinagar and tomorrow the traffic will be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil”
In Kargil, traders said that they have not stocked essential commodities for winter yet.
However, Talking to us, CEC LAHDC Kargil, Haji Haneefa Jan said though they have completed the ration stocking for winter but still need additional stocking of k-oil and flour.
He said, “Though we have already completed the stocking as per the requirements but still we need k-oil and flour.’
