Flood-victims of Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar protest ‘govt apathy’

Residents of Rajbagh and Jawahar Nagar areas here on Wednesday staged protest against delay in compensation for losses suffered by them during devastating floods last year.

“Government has failed to fulfill its promise of providing compensation to us. Ironically, despite passing of over a year since floods, Government has left us to fend for ourselves,” they said.

Out of Rs 80,000 crore package announced by Modi government recently, Rs 7854 crore were announced for flood relief, reconstruction and flood management.

“The so-called package announcement has been limited to paper work only. We will be forced to intensify protests if government fails to release second installment of the assured compensation,” they said.

Later, the protesters dispersed off peacefully after some senior police and civil officials assured to redress their grievance.
