Two injured in scuffle inside Bandipora courtTwo persons, including public prosecutor Shafiq Ahmad Bhat, were injured in a scuffle between the lawyers and a client in a local court in Bandipora district of north Kashmir today.
The incident took place on the premises of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bandipora.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bandipora, Shabbir Ahmad told KIF that preliminary reports suggest the scuffle was started by the lawyers over client fee.
When accused Noor Din Gujjar and his accomplices tried to defend themselves, the lawyers along with their fellows severely thrashed them, the SSP said, adding that a civilian also sustained serious injuries in the scuffle.
He said the lawyers should have exhibited restraint while dealing with their clients.
The lawyers, however, alleged that the accused breached the court security and attacked one of the senior lawyers, Jan Mohammad Mir, with a knife.
“Noor Din, wielding a knife, first attacked lawyer Jan Mohammad. When we intervened, he and his complies also attacked us,” said public prosecutor Shafiq Ahmad Bhat, who also sustained injuries in the incident.
He said the lawyers later approached the Chief Judicial Magistrate with a compliant, which was later forwarded to the SHO concerned for registration of FIR against the accused, who fled the spot after the scuffle.
The police, however, denied that the accused used any weapon to assault the lawyer.
