BJP, Congress on same page in condemning Farooq’s remarks

While the BJP today asked Jammu-based leaders of the National Conference (NC) to clear their stand on Farooq Abdullah’s recent statement in which he came to the defence of militants, the Congress termed former Chief Minister’s remarks as highly “objectionable.”
“The NC president has crossed all limits and indulged in making statements which are well-planned and aimed at provoking the people of Kashmir. His utterances are the attempts to regain the lost faith and ground in Kashmir and the Jammu-based leaders should come clean on what has been said by Farooq Abdullah. One cannot understand as to why the NC’s vocal leaders of Jammu do not speak when Farooq targets the Dogra rulers?” general secretary of state BJP Narinder Singh said.
“Farooq has unleashed a provocative and anti-national campaign by defending the gun-carrying youths by hailing them as freedom fighters,” he said.
Narinder Singh said the Jammu-based leaders of the NC should either seek apology for the statements of Farooq or leave the party to prove their concern for the honour of the Dogra rulers and the nationalist forces in the state. Meanwhile, expressing serious concern over the deteriorating situation in the Valley, the Congress has taken a strong exception to Farooq’s statement.
Ravinder Sharma, chief spokesperson of the party, said, “it is unfortunate that a person of his stature who held very important positions has made such irresponsible statements.”
