Below normal temp continues in most parts of Kashmir Valley, Srinagar shivers at 0.7 degrees

Below normal minimum temperatures continued in most parts of Kashmir on the fifth straight day.

First sub-zero temperatures of the season were recorded at many places during the night intervening Thursday and Friday.

Kupwara, in north Kashmir, shivered at minus 0.9 degrees Celsius, which was 1.4 degrees below the average and was this season’s coldest night.

Gulmarg, the popular ski-resort in north Kashmir, recorded night temperature above the freezing point at 0.6 degrees Celsius as the snow cover shrunk over the area, after over 5 inches of snowfall last week.

Pahalgam recorded the coldest night of the season so far at minus 3.4 degrees Celsius and remained the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

Srinagar also saw its coldest night at 0.7 degrees Celsius during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. While Kokernag, in south Kashmir, registered a low temperature of 1.8 degrees Celsius.

Banihal was the coldest place in the Jammu region and recorded a minimum temperature of 1.2 degrees Celsius, which was 2.9 degrees below normal. It was also this season’s coldest night in Banihal. Jammu city recorded 11.8 degrees Celsius, Katra 11.6 degrees Celsius, Batote 5.8 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah 3.4 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures, MeT data said. The MeT office has said that the weather shall remain dry till at least November 19.
