Bus Accident in Samba District: 19 Injured as Bus Falls into Canal

Nineteen people, including women and children, were injured after a bus they were travellingrolled down into a canal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district on early Tuesday morning, said officials, as reported by news agency PTI. Officials stated the incident took place after the driver lost control of the bus in the Samotra Channi area. Immediately after the mishap, locals in the area and police personnel rushed to the accident site and sent all the injured people to the Ghagwal trauma centre.

Officials stated that some of the injured were also shifted to the Government Medical College in Jammu, reported PTI.

Notably, all the injured included labourers and their family members, who were going to Kashmir to work at a brick kiln, said the police.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident that took place on Monday, two persons were killed and at least 70 were left injured after two private buses suffered head-on collision in Melpattampakkam in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district, said police.

The injured were shifted to a government hospital in the district. In the video that surfaced on social media, it is clearly visible that the front portion of the two vehicles was completely damaged in the accident. After the mishap, many locals and members of the state police rushed to the spot and helped take the injured to the nearby hospital.

So far, police have said the exact cause of the accident is not known and added they are investigating the matter further, reported news agency PTI.

However, initial reports indicated that the front tyre of one of the buses exploded, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle. Subsequently, the bus from one direction collided with a bus coming from the opposite direction, said police.

After the collision, senior district revenue and police officials rushed to Melpattampakkam to help the injured.
