Security forces launched an operation based on “hard intelligence” in the general area of DKG late on Wednesday
Three army soldiers died in a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the Dera Ki Gali (DKG) area of Poonch district on Thursday, people familiar with the matter said.
A military spokesperson said the operation based on “hard intelligence” was launched on Wednesday night in the general area of DKG, Thanamandi, Rajouri. Two army vehicles carrying troops that were headed to the operational site came under attack by terrorists at about 3:45pm on Thursday. “The fire was immediately retaliated upon by own troops,” Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said.
“In the ongoing operation, own troops sustained 3 Fatal and 3 non-fatal casualties,” he said. People familiar with the matter said ambulances besides reinforcements of 48RR and 43 RR have been rushed to the site. “Public movement in the area has been restricted,” one intelligence officer said.
Thursday’s attack on the two army vehicles comes a month after five army personnel including two army officers were killed in action in an encounter with heavily-armed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in the dense jungles of Kalakote area of Rajouri district.
