10 candidates from JK qualify all India services examination

Abid SadiqBhat (rank 27th) of Hyderpora, Srinagar figured among the top ranking candidates who cracked the examination.
“Finally I did it,” said an elated Bhat (33) an alumnus of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar. He had already cracked the examination once but his desire for improving his rank was the reason for him to sit in the examination for the second time. Presently undergoing training in Hyderabad in Indian Revenue Services, Bhat had earlier also cleared the KAS examination.
Bashir Ahmad Bhat (rank 189th), Raja Yaqoob (rank 274th) and ShakeelMaqboolYatoo (rank 633rd) are other candidates from Kashmir who cracked the prestigious examination.
While Abid SadiqBhat has got into Indian Administrative Service (IAS), two other candidates have cracked Indian Police Service (IPS) and the remaining secured their berth in other elite all India services.
Shakeel Maqbool Yatoo from Chadoora, presently working as lecturer in Government Polytechnic Srinagar said he cracked the examination after studying for four months. “Political Science was my main subject. I was concentrating on national and international issues and used to read lot of newspapers,” he said.
Seven candidates from Jammu region have also cracked the all India services examination. Poonch district got the highest share as three candidates from the area made it to the IAS this year.
Abhishek Mahajan of Jammu secured 366th rank. This is the second time he has cracked the civil services examination. He is presently an IPS probationer undergoing training at IPS Police Academy Hyderabad.
Owais Ahmad Rana of Poonch secured 744st rank.  Son of a retired doctor ZahoorRana and ShabanaAftab, Professor of Chemistry at GCET, Owais is the resident of KalabanMendhar, Poonch and is presently a Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) officer, posted as Under Secretary CAPD.
Owais told Greater Kashmir that immediately after his graduation from SKAUST-J in 2011 he cracked Combined Services Examination in J&K. “My uncle Masood Choudhary, a retired IPS officer, and my college-mate DrSahid Iqbal, DC Rajouri, are my inspiration”, he said.
Another KAS officer, Qamar-uz-ZamanChoudhary S/O ZamanChowdhary of Surankote, Poonch secured 751st rank. He has already qualified J&K combined services examination and is presently posted as Deputy Registrar Cooperatives.
Mehtab Ahmed Jagal, a resident of Poonch district, secured 1003 rank. A KAS officer, Jagal is presently posted as Teshildar relief Organization Udhampur.
From Chenab Valley, Afaq Ahmad Giri of Banihal also made it to the IAS by securing 585 Rank.
Vikrant Bhushan of Katra in Reasi district has also cracked the examination and has secured 954 Rank.
The results were declared on Thursday and are available on UPSC’s website.
From Kashmir Dr Shah Faisal topped IAS in 2010. He is presently posted as Deputy Commissioner Bandipora. He was the second Indian Muslim who has topped the coveted civil services exams. Before him, Amir Subhani became the first Indian Muslim to top the UPSC exams.
Gaurav Agrawal of Delhi has got the first rank in the examination at the all India level with Economics as his optional subject.
He holds Bachelor of Technology (Computer Science) degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow.
