Kashmir Calling: Hoteliers slash rates by 30% across Kashmir Valley

The hoteliers of the Kashmir valley have announced 30 per cent discount for the intending tourists for the coming spring and summer seasons.
A Tourism Department official today said the announcement was made during a seminar organised jointly by the department and the Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owners’ Federation (KHAROF) in Kolkata.
KHAROF president Abdul Wahid Malik said their body had 600 members and the discount was being offered in an effort to boost tourist arrivals to the Valley.
“We are announcing 30 per cent rebate on our tariffs so that we can encourage the maximum number of tourists visiting Kashmir. We have been doing business with the travel and tours operators from Kolkata for decades and this time again, we are here to rebuild that bond and enhance our business partnerships,” Malik added.
Regional Director of the East Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, JP Shaw, who was the chief guest at the seminar, assured to promote Kashmir tourism through its ‘Incredible India’ campaign.
“Kashmir is mini-India. You have every tourism product to offer there from leisure to adventure to pilgrimage or world-class golf experience. Travellers have so many tourism products to experience at a single destination i.e. J&K. We will promote it in the Eastern region of India through the Incredible India campaign,” Shaw said.
He urged the travel-trade fraternity from Kolkata to promote J&K’s tourism potential and also downplayed the negative media coverage given to Kashmir, which he said had dented its tourism.
Meanwhile, Tourism Director, Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah said J&K received major chunk of its tourists from West Bengal, especially Kolkata.
“We are here to rebuild that bond between Kashmir and Kolkata and invite the people of this place to our scenic locations. We have been receiving good support from the travel agents and tour operators of Kolkata who have been sending tourists to J&K in large numbers for many decades,” Shah added.
