25 Scientists from Kashmir figure among Stanford’s list of top world scientists

Worlds Top Scientists: 45 from J&K, 25 from Kashmir figure among Stanford’s University list

As many as 45 scientists from Jammu & Kashmir figured among World’s top 2 per cent Scientists list compiled by Stanford University in USA.

According to reports, at least 25 scientists from Kashmir and 20 scientists from Jammu earned the top spot. It counts scientists based on a few important metrics, such as publications and citations. The list is created by Stanford University using subject-specific analysis.

Professor Shakil A. Romshoo, a renowned earth scientist and vice chancellor of IUST, Professor Ghulam Jeelani from the Department of Earth Sciences, Professor F. A. Masoodi, Doctors Adil Gani and Idrees Ahmed Wani from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Doctors Imtiaz Ahmed, Shabir Ahmad Parrah, Ikhlaq Hussain, and Dr. Rouf Ahmad Rather (Research), the Department of Zoology, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation, Institute of Technology Zakura Campus and South Campus of the University, respectively.

The Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences has contributed two scientists to the list. Dr. MS Khuroo has been included in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Dr. Parvaiz Ahmad Kaul has been listed in the category of General and Internal Medicine with a specialisation in Respiratory Medicine.

Dr. Faheem Hyder Pottoo, an additional scientist from Srinagar who works as an assistant professor in the pharmacology department at Saudi Arabia’s Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (formerly known as the University of Dammam), has been included in the ranking.

Prof. Kavita Suri was included on the list of scientists from Jammu University. She is the Department of Lifelong Learning’s Director.
