JK transfers 45 officials after ECI directions

In the wake of directions from the Election Commission of India, the state government Wednesday issued transfer orders to 45 officials of the Revenue department—most of whom were posted in their home districts.
Though the State’s Revenue department had pushed for retaining them at their existing positions “for being involved in relief and rehabilitation in flood-hit areas of the state”, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) turned down the plea citing that the Deputy Commissioners have communicated that such transfers won’t affect the rehab work.
The State government vide order No Rev/ Gaz/261 of 2014, dated 29-10-2014 transferred 45 officials most of whom were posted in their home districts.
The order was issued by the government following the Chief Electoral Officer’s concurrence vide No.1678/
CEO/AE/2014/176 Dated 29/10/2014.
Pertinently, following imposition of the Model Code of Conduct for Assembly polls beginning November 25, the CEO has directed the government to shift all officials posted in their home districts or at a particular district for the last three years.
As already reported by this newspaper, the Chief Electoral Officer UmangNarula has sought details on transfers and postings made after October 15 after his office reportedly received complaints that some officials “close to ruling parties” were posted at “influential positions” before the imposition of the MCC to “ensure favors from them during the elections.”
Meanwhile, the state government constituted a “State Level Coordination Group”  for deployment of paramilitary forces and State police during the polls.
The panel headed by Additional Director General of Police Armed, SM Sahai would comprise of 11 members. These are: IGP (Personnel PHQ), IG CRPF, Jammu, IG (Ops) CRPF, Kashmir, IG BSF, Jammu,  IG BSF, Kashmir, IGP Kashmir Zone, IGP Jammu Zone, DIG ITBP, DIG SSB and Commandant RPF.
