PDP enacting drama to secure CM’s post for 6 yrs: NC

‘PDP can stoop to any extent for power’

National Conference Tuesday accused Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of enacting drama of “overnight lack of interest in government formation” to secure Chief Minister’s post for six years.
In a joint statement, NC leaders ridiculed PDP’s attempts to fool the people by enacting a drama of overnight lack of interest in government formation in the media.
“This drama of overnight haughtiness by PDP was just a classic Mufti-style theatrical act by PDP in the media to bargain for a 6 year CM term for Mufti Sayeed,” they said.
The joint statement was issued by NC leaders Ali Mohammad Sagar, Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Mubarak Gul, Mian Altaf Ahmed, Nasir Aslam Wani, Sakina Ittoo, Shameema Firdous and the newly elected legislators of the party.
The NC leaders slammed PDP for “insulting the intelligence of the people” by assuming its theatrical melodrama in the media could actually give the semblance of an apparent ideological element in PDP’s DNA where none exists.
“PDP has finalized its alliance with BJP and this became formal and irrevocable with their alliance in Rajya Sabha polls. Now, the two parties are also jointly contesting the elections to Legislative Council seats. Even the cabinet portfolios shared between the parties has been finalized and sealed,” they said.
They said the only bone of contention between PDP and BJP is the issue of Chief Ministerial arrangement and every other pretense by PDP is purely a guilt-laden attempt by Mufti Sayeed to create moral smokescreens to justify the unjustifiable ideological u-turn by the party. “PDP should understand that the people of Kashmir are neither naive nor gullible to be misled by these dramas,” the joint statement said.
It said NC chose not to sacrifice its principled stands and ideology for the petty trappings of power and “we have been consistent and unambiguous about our stand since the first day”.
“If NC wanted to be in the government, then it would have happened. However, NC chose to stick to its ideology and principles. PDP on a diametrically opposite scale epitomized its lack of integrity and dignity by hankering after BJP from day one for making Mufti Sayeed the CM.  For that lone and singular goal they were prepared to sell their soul and compromise on every single apparently moral stand they advocated before the elections,” they said.
The NC leader said Mufti Sayeed’s statement that BJP was welcome to go with NC was nothing more than a petulant, desperate drama to try and secure a full six term CM post for Mufti Sayeed.
“These are desperate antics by Mufti to continue pleading for a six-year shot at the CM’s chair and nothing else. PDP was never concerned about the larger political issues of the State and its people. They are blinded by their hunger for political power as a tool of manipulation, corruption and furthering their self interests. The party can stoop to any extent for power and we are witnessing a new chapter of surrender and undignified submission by the PDP,” they said adding  PDP and morality are two diametrically opposite concepts.
Claiming that PDP was founded as a bargaining chip by covert forces and bargaining chips don’t have ideologies but roles to play, they said, “PDP should now unapologetically play the role it was created for in 1996 and stop embarrassing itself by turning into a drama company to secure a 6 year CM term for Mufti Sayeed,” added the NC leaders.
