One Killed, Five Injured in Anantnag grenade blast

An ice-cream vendor was killed and five others including a CRPF man and a woman and her minor child injured in a grenade explosion in Achabal Adda area of this south Kashmir town on Saturday.

The grenade exploded with a big bang injuring six persons including a paramilitary CRPF man. The injured were rushed to District Hospital Anantnag, where from one of the critically injured was referred by doctors to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.
SSP Anantnag, Muhammad Jabbar, said one of the critically injured person identified as Muhammad Jabbar of Dialgam area succumbed to injuries in the Srinagar hospital.
Jabbar, a small time ice-cream vendor, had his cart placed near the site of the blast and was carrying out the day’s work.
The other injured were identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Zargar of Shakhsaaz Mohalla Kadipora, Anantnag; Shiraza Akhter wife of Abdul Rashid Dar of Harnag area of Anantnag; Rujhan, minor son of injured Shiraza; Vijay Kumar of Punjab and CRPF constable Hona Sonowal of Assam.
After the grenade blast, police and paramilitary personnel laid siege around the area and conducted random searches to nab the attackers. However, no arrests were reported.
“It (grenade) was probably aimed at the civilians,” DIG South Kashmir range, Nitesh Kumar said.
