A Historic First: Kashmir Valley Now Connected by Direct Train
In a landmark moment for India’s transport infrastructure, the Vande Bharat Express has officially begun operations between Jammu and Srinagar, marking the first-ever direct rail link to the Kashmir Valley.
The inaugural service was flagged off on April 30, 2026, by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, with regular passenger operations commencing from May 2, 2026.
This milestone effectively completes the long-awaited Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link, transforming regional connectivity.
